The Art of Carla Zampatti
by Tiffany Kennedy
When you walk into the David jones in Perth city and go into the ‘designer’ section, the first thing that you will see is the amazing collections by Carla Zampatti. 1990 was the first time David Jones stocked Carla Zampatti’s designs and ever since then more and more people are able to experience the wonderful designs that Zampatti has created.
In 1967 Zampatti had her first national launch which was then followed three years after with the establishment of Carla Zampatti Ltd. This lead to Zampatti being one of the front runners in the Australian fashion industry, and it’s evident how amazing these dresses and designs really are today. When I walked into David jones to have a look at what designs were in store it is so clear why Zampatti is such a front runner. There is a beautiful elegance within each piece but also a little bit of attitude which holds it all together. Every single piece of that Zampatti designs is practically art and I can’t praise that enough. If there’s one thing I love, it’s when art and fashion come together to make something amazing.
I still remember there was this beautiful black dress with flowers at the top, almost like a dress fit for a ballerina ready to perform black swan. It was from last years collection and it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. All I wanted was to wear that dress for my ball (which I sadly did not). It was one of the most beautiful pieces of art I had ever seen and when I tried it on, I almost felt like a princess. And that’s how I feel wearing any piece of Zampatti clothing. As someone who is quite small, sometimes these dress don’t exactly fit me the way I would like. Sometimes it falls off my shoulder but that’s my only problem really, yes the dresses can be a little long but they still look fabulous like that. I feel like maybe if there was a smaller size then those things would be fixed but I’d probably have other problems, and not everything fits everyone perfectly and that’s okay. However, these dresses are still incredible and Zampatti’s collections are my go to for formal events.
Other than the amazing couture art dresses, Zampatti also has a range of other elements within the collections displayed. From faux fur elements to classic tops that are elegant for any occasion, Zampatti has a wide range of different elements that are displayed. The pants that are designed are tailored elegantly and every element looks incredible, yes they aren’t the couture collection but these pieces are still stand out pieces that can work for a vast majority of people. There isn’t really much for me to fault these designs with but in my personal opinion, I prefer the couture pieces over their normal collection pieces, but both are beautiful. I cannot wait for the next collection to appear in stores, Zampatti has been achieving amazing things for years and will continue to as her designs are at the top of the Australian fashion game.
You can see her designs in store at David Jones or at her own store (located in Claremont, WA)
